An American entrepreneur formerly known as Tyler Gold has decided to legally change his name to Tyrannosaurus Rex because he wants his name to be ‘cooler’.
American entrepreneur Tyler Gold has changed his name to Tyrannosaurus Rex
The 23-year-old businessman applied to change his name at York County court room, Nebraska, on Monday and will now be known by the same moniker given to the prehistoric dinosaur.
Mr Rex told a shocked Judge Alan Gless that he thought the unusual name, Greek for ‘tyrant lizard’ was ‘cooler’ than his current name.
He added that he wanted to change his name ‘because the (T-Rex designation) is cooler.’
He added: ‘Also, as an entrepreneur, name recognition is important and the new name is more recognisable.’
Judge Gless noted that Mr Gold had gone through the proper channels to change his name and had no objection to the request.
Mr Gold denied wanting to change his name to avoid creditors or law enforcement officials.
The unusual decision caught the imagination of dinosaur fans across the globe on Tuesday, with the term ‘Tyrannosaurus Rex’ trending on Twitter.
One amused user said: ’5 year old me would be so jealous of the guy who changed his name to Tyrannosaurus Rex. SO INSANELY JEALOUS’
While another added: ‘Nebraska man changes name to Tyrannosaurus Rex? What a Jurassic lark!’
He will now be officially known Tyrannosaurus Rex Joseph Gold, while it looks like his plan to become more memorable name plan just might have worked.A
