Sell your stuff. Get some cash. Or maybe, do some good.
Seattle-based charity World Concern is pairing up with iSOLD It of Washington, a year-old retail chain that sells items on eBay for a commission.
People can take their gems and their junk to iSOLD It stores in the Puget Sound area. The stores take care of all the messy details — photographing and listing the item, communicating with potential buyers, shipping and collecting payment. Each item must have an estimated eBay value of at least $30.
The seller gets a check once the item sells, minus a commission fee of about 30 percent.
The new fund-raising partnership with World Concern means sellers also can convert their in-kind donations to cash by designating that World Concern receive the proceeds for its humanitarian-relief and community development efforts worldwide.
The commission will drop slightly when World Concern is the designated recipient, according to iSOLD It.
ISOLD It of Washington opened four stores in the past year in Seattle, Kent, Federal Way and Puyallup, with plans to open 25 additional stores in Western Washington in the next four years.
The stores are part of a national franchise with 80 stores nationwide that calls itself the world's single largest seller on eBay. They also are part of a growing e-business community cashing in on the online auction giant's success.
World Concern is a Christian-based humanitarian organization and ministry of CRISTA and was founded in 1955.
