As the contractor registration has expired, it is unlikely you can get your money back, since there is no bond upon which to submit a claim.
Given that, Langley suggested the reader would need to file a lawsuit in Pierce County Superior Court.
If the property is located in King County, the county prosecutor has a program in which advanced-level law-school students work with the prosecutor's office to file charges against contractors to recover damages for consumers.
Due to dramatic increases in contractor-bond rates in the past few years, there has been a huge increase in unlicensed contractors performing work in all areas and in all trades.
Check out any contractor performing work for you before signing a contract. This is a vitally important step, as this reader has unfortunately discovered the hard way.
