From what you've said, I would doubt you are doing yourself any harm at all, in fact your lifestyle sounds much healthier than most. However I do agree that there seems to be constant shifts in opinion as to what constitutes the perfect lifestyle, and I can understand your frustration! In fact I'm sure that many people get so bombarded with 'advice' that they' switch off altogether
As far as diet is concerned, One reason that dietary revelations seem to contradict each other is that nutrition is still a relatively young science - it's less than twenty years since it was officially accepted that a diet high in saturated fat increases the risk of heart disease for example.
Actually though, scientists aren't nearly as divided over health issues as we might think. It's just that non-mainstream theories tend to get more of an airing because they make a better story.
What can't be argued with is that the single biggest thing you can do for your health is not to smoke. 30 minutes of exercise a day will also keep you in good shape.
As far as eating well is concerned, I think you can't really do better than sticking by these tried and tested, (if a tad patronising) tips put together by the Department of Health and MAFF.
1 Enjoy your food
2 Eat a variety of different foods
3 Eat the right amount to be a healthy weight
4 Eat plenty of foods rich in starch and fibre
5 Don't eat too much fat
6 Don't eat sugary foods too often
7 Look after the vitamins and minerals in your food (don't overcook or soak vegetables too long)
8 If you drink alcohol, keep within sensible limits.
