Help! I think my daughter is anorexic
Whether your daughter's current weight is a cause for concern depends on her height. A good marker is her Body Mass Index which you can arrive at by dividing her weight in kilograms by her height in metres (W/HxH). (You can use the health calculator on the left hand side of the femail.co.uk health section for this.) A healthy figure is between 19 and 25, 18 is just about okay, but 17 or below is unacceptably low.
If she is too thin and continuing to lose weight it is possible that she is developing or has developed an eating disorder. But equally it could just be an attention-seeking phase that you should support her through but not worry unduly over.
Either way it appears she has made an agreement with you that she will follow professional advice on a suitable calorie intake. Though this is somewhat dependent on her frame, the average recommended for a 15-18 year old sedentary female is 2,110 calories daily - more than she'll ever need in her life due to the extra demands of growth.
If, despite her agreement with you, your daughter continues to undereat, remind her she is breaking her part of the bargain, but resist the temptation to nag. Instead talk to your doctor about your concerns so that you can have professional help lined up for her should she need it.
