PMRC develops efficient Kit for Albumin testing in Diabetics
Pakistan Medical Research Council has developed a diagnostic Kit for detection of albumin in the urine of diabetic patients at a very early stage.
Albumin in the diabetics leads to kidney failure and an early detection can be preventive in this regard.
This was disclosed by PMRC in the meeting of its Board of Governors held in Islamabad, today, under the Chairmanship of Federal Minister for Health Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan.
The Kit has been developed by PMRC`s Center at Sheikh Zayed Hospital and after being checked in UK, it is now available for marketing.
Besides detecting albumin in micro quantities the Kit will bring down the cost of testing by 75%.
The board of Governors approved the commercial marketing of this kit.
Stressing the need for indigenous research in the field of medicines, Federal Minister for Health Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan proposed several measures for strengthening research activities by PMRC.
The board of Governors agreed that the pharmaceutical fund could be utilized affectively as medical research fund by redirecting it to Ministry of Health instead of Finance and a committee has been set up to formulate ToRs within 4-6 weeks.
The secretary Heath Syed Anwar Mahmood reiterated the support of Ministry in enhancing research capabilities of PMRC.
The meeting also approved establishment of National Cancer Registration Programme with a view to gather base line data on cancer patients in Pakistan.
The National Cancer Registration Programme would be established by involving nine major Institutes of country dealing with cancer patients.
The board of Governors also approved 21 research projects with the cost of around 1.8 million recommended by the 3rd and 4th meeting of Technical Advisory Committee of PMRC.
Among 20 agendas items matters pertaining to career of doctors and researches, Prevalence of Hepatitis B and C and Rotavirus Prevalence study were also discussed.
