Can changing my diet cure my blackouts?
I am very sorry to hear of your understandably distressing health problems. It must be very upsetting and frustrating not to know the medical cause, but hopefully doctors will be able to make some kind of diagnosis soon.
In the meantime, it's interesting to note that you feel the attacks are made worse by lack of food, which could suggest that there is some link with blood sugar levels.
Personally, I wouldn't advise cutting down on carbohydrate foods because these are the ones which directly raise your blood sugar levels. But I would suggest you eat largely slower-releasing carbohydrates such as pasta, heavy whole grain breads, oats, pulses, yoghurt and fruit.
The reason is that these are less likely to stimulate haphazard fluctuations in your blood sugar than the faster-releasing refined carbohydrates in white flour and sugar.
As far as possible, you should also try to eat little and often, for example five small meals day rather than two or three as are usually eaten.
My guess is that you are also fairly anxious and stressed, which again is entirely understandable. One supplement which might help is a standardised extract of the herb valerian, marketed as Sedonium (though you should check with your GP first). Valerian helps promote restful sleep, but can also be used for easing stresses and strains.
Taking a B complex may also help, as more of the B vitamins are required when you are under stress.
