It is extremely unlikely that by dieting you will make a significant difference to your breasts, especially if you are young as a lot of breast is made up of breast tissue which will not respond to dieting.
The only way you can be helped is by a standard breast reduction which obviously means scars on the breast, but from all the research that has been done in outcomes of surgery it is probably the most well appreciated cosmetic operation by patients.
Does a healthy diet make IBS worse?
The list of foods that MAY be a problem for IBS sufferers is quite long, but there's no guarantee that you will have a problem with any of them yourself.
It's therefore best to carry on eating a wide and varied diet and only to omit something if you definitely know it causes you problems.
However there are some general guidelines that it would be sensible to follow. One is to eat a high fibre diet (though you should take care if your symptoms are mainly diarrhoea, as a sudden increase in fibre can make things worse).
Fibre in fruits, vegetables and whole grain cereals is best, but avoid lots of added bran as it can be too harsh.
Also make sure to eat three regular meals and be sure that one of these is breakfast. In fact if possible, you shouldn't go longer than five hours without food, and may find it beneficial to eat little and often.
Meals that are too large can over-stimulate the bowel, which may cause cramping and diarrhoea.
Every IBS sufferers tolerance to different foods varies, but spices, wheat milk and foods with irritating skins and seeds, for example tomatoes, sweetcorn and kidney beans do seem to be the most likely to cause intestinal discomfort.
The best way to be sure about which foods upset you is to keep a detailed diet diary together with notes on symptoms, preferably in conjunction with a doctor or dietitian.
Two other things to do is to reduce fat intake (fat appears to be a stimulus to gut contractions) and to take care how much caffeine you have in coffee and tea as this may also cause flare-ups.
You could also add a probiotic (friendly bacteria) drink or supplement to your diet, as there is increasing evidence that it may ease symptoms.
And don't forget that stress and anxiety can be more of a problem in IBS that the food you eat.
Below I've suggested just one day's meal plan for an IBS sufferer. The quantities and number of snacks will vary according to calorie needs:
• Breakfast
Whole grain cereal, eg porridge, branflakes, Weetabix, Shredded Wheat with semi-skimmed milk. (Rice Krispies for those who cannot tolerate excess fibre).
• Wholemeal, or rye toast (not granary as the seeds can irritate) plus thin spread of choice. Fruit juice.
• Lunch
Filled sandwich or roll (ideally wholemeal). Yoghurt or fromage frais or scone. Fruit (eg banana, apple or pear (may be better peeled). Drink of choice.
• Evening Meal
Meat, chicken or fish with potato (mashed, boiled) plus vegetables (possible problem vegetables include onions, peas, sweetcorn, sprouts, cabbage); or pasta with a tomato paste-based sauce (be wary of tomato and pepper skins and seeds); or a stir-fried meat/fish and vegetable dish with rice or noodles (suited to spice tolerance).
Fresh fruit, fruit salad or fruit-based dessert, eg apple crumble, banana custard. Drink of choice.
• Snacks
Between meal snacks are fine to suit appetite (but not at expense of healthy meals).
• Drinks
Have at least 6-8 low-caffeine drinks (250ml each) per day. Herbal teas, diluted fruit juices and water are the best choices.
