How to find low-cost health-care providers

Help in finding health care:

Community Health Access Program: Seattle/King County, 800-756-5437; outside King County, 877-543-7669.

What it does: Helps those with low income or no insurance obtain health care. Focuses on children and pregnant women. Can sign up children for low-cost health insurance (CHIP, the state's Children's Health Insurance Program), or no-cost health insurance (Medicaid, the federally funded program parceled out through the states).

State Department of Social and Health Services Medical Eligibility Determination: 800-204-6429.

What it does: Helps people with low income obtain medical coverage for their children, either through Medicaid, the state's Basic Health Plan or other resources.

Low-cost care options

Community and public-health centers: For information, call the Community Health Access Program at 800-756-5437, or the Washington Association of Community and Migrant Health Centers (an umbrella organization for all of the community-health centers in the state) at 425-656-0848 or Web site www.wacmhc.org.

Who qualifies: Anyone. Sliding fees based on income.

 

What you get: Reduced-cost medical and dental services, including referrals to specialists.

Simple Care: 425-255-4166.

Who qualifies: Anyone who pays in cash (or check, credit card) at the time of service.

What you get: Discounts of 20 percent to 50 percent on medical services provided by a private system of 120 doctors and other providers in King County.

Charity care: For information, call individual hospitals.

Who qualifies: Those who earn incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

Provides health-care coverage for anyone who might be excluded from other plans because of existing health conditions, but is expensive.
