Pros: Nectarines are a genetic variation of the peach. Both fruits come from the same family as plums and apricots and have similar nutritional qualities. One large nectarine supplies nearly an entire day's requirement of vitamin C. They are easy to digest and their gentle laxative effect make them an ideal food for people suffering from digestion problems. Like all yellow-orange fruits and vegetables, nectarines are rich in betacarotene, the antioxidant which protects against the free radicals that cause tissue damage, cancer and heart disease. The skin is full of fibre, so clean but don't peel. That they are virtually fat and salt free makes them ideal for people on a weight-loss programme or suffering from water retention.
