EXERCISE: Hold your arms out to your sides at shoulder height, with hands flat and palms facing down. 'Draw' ten large circles with your fingertips, then ten more in the opposite direction. Repeat the exercise again with palms facing up.
Another exercise involves standing with the feet hip-width apart. Keeping the upper back straight, bend forward from the waist, reaching your arms out in front of you as if you were trying to grab weeds. Then sharply pull both arms back towards your body, so that your hands end either side of your chest, under your armpits. Repeat 20 times.
Breaststroke swimming is great for toning arms -visit your local pool during your lunch hour or after work and notch up some arm-strengthening lengths.
DIET: Eat high-grade proteins such as lean chicken, tofu and fish while you are toning and building up upper-body muscles. Low-fat foods help to shed excess weight.

EXERCISE: Walking, jogging, cycling and climbing steps in a gym or at home - are great for toning leg muscles.
Lying on your side, slowly raise your top leg as high as you can. Hold for a count of five, then gently lower. Repeat ten times, alternately flexing and pointing the foot, and gradually build up repetitions. Repeat lying on the other side.
DIET: Water retention can aggravate the appearance of cellulite and both sugar and salt encourage the body to hang on to excess water. Cut out desserts and sugar in tea and coffee. Avoid salted foods such as crisps and nuts, and don't add salt to your food.

Slowly roll forward on both feet until you are standing on tiptoes, hold for a slow count of five, then slowly roll back down again. Repeat ten times.

Bottom The gluteal muscles are among the largest in the body. But while sedentary lifestyles offer little chance to exercise them, shorts, bikinis and swimsuits all expose our bottoms to scrutiny.
EXERCISE: Repeatedly clench and relax your buttocks - while sitting or standing. These muscles need a lot of exercise to stay firm and small, repeated movements do help. Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor and hip-width apart, arms by your sides. Keeping your feet in the same spot, slowly lift up your bottom as high as you can - only your feet, shoulders, neck and head should touch the floor. Then slowly lower your bottom. Repeat ten times, increasing by two every other day.
DIET: Many women tend to store up excess fat on their bottoms, causing the classic British pear shape. Eat low-calorie snacks such as celery and grapefruit. These have diuretic properties so help shed retained water, which exaggerates the dimpling effect of cellulite.
FOR MEN
Torsos While women tend to deposit fat on their bottoms, hips and thighs, men deposit fat around their waist the so-called 'beer belly'. But you don't have to be a heavy drinker to have one, because it is calories rather than pints that cause the unsightly shape.
EXERCISE: Any aerobic exercise is good - jogging, swimming or cycling - but first take advice from your GP. Simple sit-ups and crunches can help get overstretched muscles back into shape, so you won't be sagging once the weight has dropped off.
DIET: Dieting is crucial - unless you reduce your calorie intake, you stand little chance of shaping up. Even a modest reduction in calories can help beat a beer belly.
