Zara Phillips has revealed she is so "obsessed" by cleaning that her boyfriend Mike Tindall has nicknamed her Monica, after the neurotic character from the sitcom Friends.

Zara, who is 12th in line to the throne, admitted she goes into "cleaning frenzies", just like the TV character played by Courteney Cox.

The 26-year-old Royal also complained light-heartedly that her boyfriend, an England rugby international, never does his share of the cooking.

Eventing champion Zara, who was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2006, said: "We have a cleaner, but I do go into cleaning frenzies where Mike calls me Monica because I start chucking everything out. So then he gets out of the house."

Obsessed: Courteney Cox as Monica in Friends

Monica's character in the smash-hit American series Friends became so comically obsessed with cleaning she was once shown using a handheld vacuum cleaner to clean a larger vacuum.

In the interview for BBC Radio 5 Live, Zara agreed she was "obsessive". She said of Tindall, 29: "He's very laid-back, though ? he's practically horizontal.

"He's quite good to live with as long as he's getting his food. He doesn't cook.

"I'm threatening to send him on cooking lessons, but it hasn't happened yet.'

Zara, who always cooks her boyfriend a huge lasagne on the evenings before he plays, made her comments at the Cheltenham Festival last week, where she received a great deal of attention for her stylish red jacket, tight black trousers and matching patent belt and shoes.

It is the second time she has caused a sartorial stir in recent weeks.

In her first official portrait ? by Scots artist Jack Vettriano ? Zara adopted a vampish look in tight top and trousers set off by high heels.

The painting was unveiled last month in aid of the BBC's Sports Relief fundraising event.

Zara, the three-day event world champion, lives with Tindall in a large house on her mother's Gatcombe estate in Gloucestershire, where she maintains seven horses.

She is currently training with her top horse, Toytown, to qualify for the Great Britain team for the Beijing Olympics this year.
